Sporting KC trades goalie Dykstra to Colorado

Published Feb. 8, 2018 1:21 p.m. ET

Andrew Dykstra, who stepped in as Sporting Kansas City's goalkeeper when club MVP Tim Melia was injured last October, has been traded to the Colorado Rapids.

Sporting KC will receive a natural second-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, the team announced Thursday.

Dykstra, 32, joined Sporting KC before the 2017 season opened but did not play until Oct. 7, the match in which Melia tore his right hamstring.

Dykstra finished that match and started the final three of the regular season as well as the team's lone match in the MLS Cup Playoffs, a 1-0 extra-time loss to the Houston Dynamo in the Western Conference Knockout Round in which he had four saves and stopped a penalty kick in extra time.
